Infrastructure development continues in Matatiele

The Matatiele Local Municipality Council in 2016 adopted it’s 5-year plan with the main focus on infrastructure development. With the plan, the municipality aim to transform the economic landscape in Matatiele, while simultaneously creating significant numbers of new jobs, and strengthen the delivery of basic services.
The municipality since 2016 has invested more than R274 million in building new and upgrading existing infrastructure, with a special focus on access roads, bridges electrification.

2018/19 projects include; Nomgavu Access Road, Epiphany Access Road, T13- Zwelitsha Access Road, Mabheleni Bridge, Matatiele Sports Centre, Mountain View Internal Streets, Matatiele Internal Streets(CBD) Phase 2, Ngcwengane Bridge, Freystata Bridges, Nomgavu Bridge, Cedarville Sport Centre, Sijoka Access Road and Lagrange Pedestrian Bridge.

Meanwhile in 2018/19, the municipality successfully energised Tsitsong & Khohlong, Mohapi, Nkungwini, Black Diamond, Nice Field & Mateleng, Pamlaville, Goxe & KwaMatias.

2019/20 planned infrastructure projects are Maluti Internal Streets –Phase 4, Cedarville Internal Streets-Phase 3, Maralakeng Access Road, Nkasela Access Road, Moiketsi Access Road, Mohapi Access Road, Mdeni-Manzini Access Road and Mkhemane Access Road.

To address the electrification backlog, government is moving with speed to connect the people of Matatiele to the national electrification grid as the people of the following areas will be connected during the 2019/20 financial year: Sehlabeng, (Mngeni & Dumisa) Mngeni, Lufefeni, Makhoba (Afzondering, Sphola & Munderstone), Mohapi (Mohapi # 2, Tlhakanelo& Silindini Qili (Qili & Mrwabo), Zitapile and Shenxa. More than 400 job opportunities were and will be created under all these projects.
